Standard Securities helped these Foster Carers

Foster carers provide homes for young people who, for a wide range of reasons, cannot stay with their birth parents. They provide homes and a family life for some of the most vulnerable young people in society.

The overwhelming majority of placements are successful and the young people and their foster families live happily together, however things can be challenging and that is where we can help.

Mr S, Northern Ireland

Mr S was faced with having to defend himself against allegations from a former foster child. Although he was eventually cleared of all the allegations he was faced with a legal bill of over £13,000.

Fortunately, the fostering agency involved had arranged legal expenses cover for all their carers through Standard Securities. The costs were met in full and Standard Securities helped to ensure that the claim was paid promptly and efficiently.

Mr and Mrs C, South London

One night in March, Mr & Mrs C’s house caught fire. The Fire Brigade who attended believed that the fire was suspicious. As a result the young woman they were fostering at the time was arrested and subsequently charged with arson. They approached their home contents insurers to be told they were not covered because the fire was deliberate.

Fortunately, the agency that had placed the child, was covered under the Foster Care Scheme arranged by Standard Securities. The repairs were carried out and the policy covered the costs of £12,500.

County Council, South-West England

A County Council were trying to place a teenager in supported lodgings with one of their approved foster carers. It had been difficult to place this individual and the social workers involved were relieved to have found a suitable home.

The prospective carers were concerned about the council’s lack of insurance, putting the placement at risk. Fortunately, Standard Securities were able to arrange cover quickly and the young person was able to join the family.
